Senior Irrigation Estimator
Job Description:
Employment Type: Full-Time, Onsite
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–3:00 PM Philippine Time
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Irrigation Estimator with strong, hands-on expertise in irrigation system layout design and construction estimating for streetscapes, parks, commercial landscapes, and related landscape development projects supporting Australian-based clients.
This role requires a professional who can independently develop irrigation layouts from landscape plans, perform accurate quantity takeoffs, and prepare detailed cost estimates for irrigation systems and associated landscaping works. Candidates must have practical experience translating landscape and construction drawings into workable irrigation designs, material quantities, and project costs.
This is not a general construction estimating role. Candidates must demonstrate relevant experience in both irrigation design and estimating, preferably on projects involving public spaces, streetscapes, parks, landscaped developments, recreational areas, or similar outdoor environments.
The ideal candidate can work independently, interpret technical drawings, apply irrigation and hydraulic principles, coordinate irrigation layouts with landscape and civil works, and deliver accurate estimates in line with Australian project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Irrigation Design and Layout Development — Essential
- Independently develop irrigation system layouts from blank or existing landscape plans for streetscapes, parks, commercial landscapes, landscaped developments, and similar projects.
- Prepare irrigation layouts showing sprinkler placement, pipe routing, valve locations, irrigation zones, and associated components.
- Interpret landscape plans and determine practical irrigation coverage, system configuration, and installation requirements.
- Apply relevant hydraulic principles to assess flow requirements, pipe sizing, pressure requirements, and irrigation system performance.
- Coordinate irrigation layouts with planting zones, turf areas, hardscaping, drainage, utilities, and civil works.
- Review plans for design gaps, coverage issues, potential clashes, and constructability concerns.
- Refine layouts and recommend practical design alternatives to improve system efficiency, installation feasibility, and cost-effectiveness.
2. Construction Estimating and Cost Planning — Essential
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for irrigation systems and associated landscape construction works.
- Conduct quantity takeoffs from landscape, irrigation, civil, hydraulic, and construction drawings.
- Calculate quantities for pipes, fittings, valves, sprinklers, pumps, irrigation controls, turf, soil preparation, drainage, and other relevant materials.
- Develop itemized cost breakdowns covering materials, labour, equipment, subcontractors, and installation requirements.
- Review project specifications, scope documents, tender packages, and drawings to establish accurate project costs.
- Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations, validate pricing, and identify scope gaps or discrepancies.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities, estimating risks, exclusions, and potential variations.
- Independently manage estimating tasks and deliver accurate submissions within tender deadlines.
3. Landscape, Streetscape, and Parks Project Coordination
- Interpret landscape plans for streetscapes, public parks, landscaped public spaces, commercial developments, and similar outdoor projects.
- Coordinate irrigation layouts with planting plans, turf areas, garden beds, pathways, road verges, drainage systems, and other landscape features.
- Determine irrigation requirements based on landscape configurations, planting areas, and project specifications.
- Support quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for related landscape works where required.
- Identify design conflicts between irrigation infrastructure and civil, drainage, landscape, or utility requirements.
- Provide practical technical recommendations to support constructability, material efficiency, and long-term system functionality.
4. Turf, Drainage, and Civil Works Support
- Assess irrigation requirements for turf areas, recreational spaces, sports fields, and other landscaped environments.
- Interpret relevant grading, drainage, civil, and hydraulic drawings to support irrigation design and estimating.
- Calculate quantities for turf installation, soil preparation, drainage, earthworks, and related landscape works where applicable.
- Identify potential constructability issues and coordinate technical requirements with relevant project stakeholders.
- Apply civil and hydraulic engineering principles relevant to irrigation, drainage, and landscape construction.
5. Software and Technical Documentation
- Use AutoCAD to prepare, interpret, and revise irrigation layouts and technical drawings.
- Use Groundplan for digital takeoffs, measurements, and quantity calculations.
- Use Simpro for estimating, cost management, and related project workflows.
- Use Microsoft Office applications to prepare cost summaries, estimates, reports, and supporting documentation.
- Maintain organized and accurate drawings, material schedules, estimating records, assumptions, and project documentation.
- Learn or adapt to the client's established systems and workflows where necessary.
6. Project Coordination and Communication
- Coordinate with Australian-based project managers, landscape professionals, engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Communicate technical queries, estimating assumptions, exclusions, design considerations, and project risks clearly.
- Work collaboratively with offshore team members to deliver accurate and timely outputs.
- Provide progress updates and contribute technical input during tender reviews and design discussions.
Required Experience and Skills — Non-Negotiable
Candidates must meet all of the following core requirements:
- More than 3 years of hands-on experience in irrigation system design and layout development, including the ability to independently prepare irrigation layouts from landscape plans.
- More than 3 years of construction estimating experience, including detailed quantity takeoffs, cost calculations, material pricing, and preparation of estimates or tender submissions.
- Demonstrated experience in streetscape, park, commercial landscaping, landscaped development, public open-space, or similar landscape-related projects.
- Practical knowledge of irrigation systems, including sprinkler placement, pipe routing, valves, zoning, fittings, and related installation requirements.
- Ability to interpret landscape, irrigation, civil, drainage, and other relevant construction drawings.
- Working knowledge of irrigation hydraulics, flow requirements, pressure considerations, and pipe sizing.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for irrigation layouts and technical drawings.
- Proficiency in Groundplan, Simpro, and Microsoft Office, or demonstrable experience with comparable tools and the ability to adapt to the client's systems.
- Ability to independently manage both design and estimating deliverables with minimal supervision.
Important screening consideration: Candidates whose experience is limited to general construction estimating, quantity surveying, civil estimating, or irrigation installation without hands-on irrigation layout design will not meet the core requirements.
Desirable / Nice-to-Have
- Experience with Australian landscaping projects, standards, specifications, and tendering processes.
- Experience in public parks, road verges, streetscapes, recreational facilities, sports fields, golf courses, or large-scale landscaped developments.
- Experience with irrigation pumps, filtration systems, water distribution, and control systems.
- Additional experience in turf installation, grading, drainage, earthworks, and associated civil works.
- Relevant qualifications in irrigation design, civil engineering, landscape design, or construction.
Qualifications
A degree, diploma, or relevant technical qualification in Civil Engineering, Irrigation Design, Landscape Design, Construction, or a related discipline is preferred. Relevant industry training or certifications are advantageous, but demonstrated hands-on experience in both irrigation design and estimating is essential.
