Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Intermediate/Strong Estimator to support Australian-based commercial construction projects, with a focus on commercial landscaping, irrigation systems, and civil works.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in estimating, takeoffs, measurements, and irrigation design, along with hands-on experience using industry-standard software such as Groundplan and Simpro. This role requires the ability to confidently interpret construction plans, prepare accurate cost estimates, provide technical insights, and communicate effectively with both offshore and onshore teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Estimating & Costing

  • Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for commercial landscaping projects.
  • Analyze project specifications, drawings, and scope of work requirements.
  • Develop comprehensive material, labor, and equipment cost breakdowns.
  • Identify potential project risks and cost-saving opportunities.

2. Takeoffs & Measurements

  • Perform quantity takeoffs and measurements from project drawings and plans.
  • Ensure a high level of accuracy using digital takeoff tools.
  • Validate quantities and reconcile discrepancies as needed.

3. Design & Technical Support

  • Interpret construction plans and assist in developing layouts and basic drawings.
  • Support irrigation system design and planning, particularly for sports field construction projects.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project teams to ensure design feasibility and project compliance.

4. Civil & Hydraulic Input

  • Provide technical input based on civil and hydraulic engineering principles.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Australian standards and regulations (essential requirement).

5. Software & Tools Utilization

Utilize the following software and tools effectively:

  • Simpro Estimating Software
  • Groundplan Takeoff Software
  • Microsoft Office Suite

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining organized project documentation and digital records.
  • Ensuring accurate data management throughout the estimating process.

6. Coordination & Reporting

  • Collaborate closely with both offshore and onshore project teams.
  • Provide timely updates on estimates, project deliverables, and progress.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating processes and workflows.

Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Proven experience in construction estimating, preferably within commercial landscaping or civil construction projects.
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Quantity takeoffs and measurements
    • Irrigation system design and estimation
    • Civil and hydraulic engineering concepts
  • Experience with sports field, turf, or recreational facility projects is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in:
    • Simpro
    • Groundplan
    • Microsoft Office Tools

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant estimating experience.
  • Experience supporting Australian construction projects is highly advantageous.
  • Previous experience working within outsourced, offshore, or remote team environments is preferred.

  • Previous experience working on commercial landscaping projects.
